چکیده

Abstract To estimate energy use efficiency for sweet potato production in Bangladesh under subtropical climatic conditions, a study was conducted with 60 individuals (12 producers each variety) by using structural questionnaire. The results revealed that the majority of input consumed pre-harvest activities (22,313.55 MJ ha−1 or 90.85%), which fertilizer application (36.84%) and irrigation (35.24%) most input, only 9.15% (2,248.42 ha−1) post-harvest activity production. involved system similar to direct (12,149.76 49.47%) indirect (12,412.21 50.53%) sources, while it much higher non-renewable sources (22,884.21 93.17%) minimum (1,677.76 6.83%) from renewable sources. average efficiency, productivity, specific energy, net profitability water-energy productivity orange-fleshed (OFSP) varieties 4.36, 1.22 kg MJ−1, 0.83 kg−1, 82,511.73 ha−1, 3.36 1.32 g m−3 respectively. OFSP showed better performance respect all water indicators.

Yield and water use efficiency of early potato grown under different irrigation regimes

Potato grown for early or off-season production plays a crucial role in the economy of several areas in the Mediterranean countries. Irrigation is important for determining yield and earliness, thus a better investigation of plant response under various pedo-climatic conditions can help to improve resource use efficiency and farmer income. A two-year field research (2009-2010) was carried o...

Non-Parametric Energy Use Efficiency, Energy Ratio and Specific Energy for Irrigated Wheat Crop Production

In this paper, non parametric Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was subjected to the energy data of wheat producers in Punjab state, India, and technical, pure technical and scale efficiencies were calculated for farms both category wise and zone wise. The main objective was to determine the strength of the correlation between non-parametric efficiencies and indices such as energy ratio and speci...

Farming Techniques, Environmental Challenges, and Technical Efficiency of Sweet Potato Production in Abia State, Nigeria

Viable sweet potato production is hard to achieve with indiscriminate use of farm inputs, resulting to wastage and environmental damages, as consequences are common problems of arable crop farming in Abia State. Issues arising from farm input use and their corresponding implications for environment called for a study on suitable farming practices and farm-specific technical efficiency for optim...

Life-cycle energy efficiency and environmental impacts of bioethanol production from sweet potato.

Life-cycle assessment (LCA) was used to evaluate the energy efficiency and environmental impacts of sweet potato-based bioethanol production. The scope covered all stages in the life cycle of bioethanol production, including the cultivation and treatment, transport, as well as bioethanol conversion of sweet potato. Results show that the net energy ratio of sweet potato-based bioethanol is 1.48 ...

Impacts of Drought Stress and Planting Methods on Sweet Corn Yield and Water Use Efficiency

Abstract Seasonal drought is the most important factor to limit the production of maize in the world. Using a split plot design, a two year field experiment was conducted to determine the effect of limited irrigation regime on yield, yield components and water use efficiency of sweet corn (Zea mays var. saccharata). Responses of three sweet corn varieties KSC403, Merit and Obsession to three di...
